Is a new death system needed?
Original Post Edited and killed on the topic. Thank you Orleron and Starslayer_D for your responses on this.

This is a pretty dead horse, actually. Countless threads have been raised on it in the past, and the main reason why it's coming up now again is probably because of the number of new players.
If you do a search over at avlis.org, you'll see what I mean.
The consensus has always come up the same: some people like the death system, some people do not.
The result is also always the same: you cannot please everyone, so we won't try. Deal with what we've got because that's what we've got.
Your OPINION and the opinion of maybe 3 or 4 of your friends is that there is a problem with the death system. Others will answer this thread as they have answered the other threads with opposing opinions, saying they like the death system the way it is. Neither of those things are fact.
So there you have it.... why the death system will likely stay as it is.
(Might want to thank me, also, because I just saved this thread about 6 pages of repeated nonsense.)

Main reason for insatisfaction with any system including death penalties:
There are deaths caused by problems with connections and lag.
if no death due to external, software, hardware reasons were possible, people would be much more forgiving towards system penalysing them for their own stupidity. Buthaving to fight through lag, and then receiving a large penalty for dying in lag will only accent the anoyance you have due to lag anyway.
This still doesn't cover death caused by malicious intend of other persons online (playerkillers, eg?).
At least this is my opinion towards death-penalties.

Yes, that is the other major point that is usually brought up in this discussion. I forgot about that one, but it is true nonetheless.

I'm going to throw out a sugestion offten made in these threads as well.
If you feel the death system isn't harsh enough... That there should be a bigger exp hit, or a loss of GP, or even perma death. You can always do this things yourself.
It's a bit like the way some people played hard core diablo, before the game suported that mode.
If you die, you stop playing that character... Or you trash X gp's or ask a DM to dock you exp's or something.

Well, as I stated previously.. I was only voicing concerns I have heard. Personally I don't mind things the way they are now, hence the reason I wiped the original post. Since this has been brought up many times before, Probably wouldn't hurt to have someone delete this thread as it isn't needed. Personally when I roleplay my deaths, I find some way for it to affect my character, mentally (shaken up and disoriented) Physically injured (cannot use an arm or something, fight with one weapon instead of two for a while, unable to run, things like that) I think it adds realism, that's why I do it. To each their own though, the current death system is good, and after thinking about what Orl and star said, I can see why it is the way it is. Great job on the concept and application
