Tairis'nadur, being as small and relatively unpopulated as it is, is still only looking at NWN 2. We wont even make a tentative decision either way until it's out, and we've had a chance to work with it.

unless they make a serious change to the archatechture of NWN2 outlands will not be looking at it even. (they are not making the game for Linux or Mac)

NWN 2 is getting a major face lift. The entire graphics engine is being redone, and the concept of tilesets is almost non-existant for exterior areas now. For me, this is great. The core rules engine isn't changing, except to update to the latest D&D rules.
The toolset is rewritten. No more "modal" crap. You can actually edit a script and a creature at the same time, for instance.
I'm not sure exactly what you'd want changed to consider it, but those are some things I can think of at the moment. NWN 2 isn't just NWN with pretty graphics and updated D&D rules. There is quite a lot changing.

You do realize that Obsidian is doing a full on game in a compressed time schedule, right? Not many companies do a full game (not counting expansions) in as short a time as they have.
As for Linux and Mac. That is largely due to rendering decisions. Not just because they think they're too good for your favorite OS.

They do only games in a compressed time shedule , this is the second of two games of total two games they made, KOTOR 2 was uncomplete as well and all they had to do is write a new story, ofcourse i know it was more fault of lucas arts because they wanted a game for x-mas. but still, i prefer to stay with the best rpg company, and thats bioware.Themicles wrote:You do realize that Obsidian is doing a full on game in a compressed time schedule, right? Its kinda silly, because both companys make games based on the same idea, the NWN community might end split up.
Now why do they do this game in such a short time ? They puplisher will most likely ship before Bioware finishes they game.

I don't expect much out of NWN 2. I just don't. NWN built an architecture. Based on the company that is producing it and the amount of time they are taking (or, rather, not taking), I imagine that NWN2 will be a game, not an architecture. It will probably even be a fun game, but a not a lot of use for copap style projects.
That being said, I'm willing to give it a chance. NWN 2 could add a lot of nice things, like 3.5's sensible DR system, prestige classes for casters that don't suck, and other such niceities. Perhaps. I have no desire to drop my current character just for shiny graphics, however. I'd have more confidence in a NWN emulator than I do in NWN2.

It will be almost impossabe to port as they decided to move to Direct X 9.0 for graphics rendering, this removed any portability it had before.
So I really don't care what they do with it unless they suddenlhy come to their sensese and fix the blunder that is the Direct X 9.0 port, this is the stated reson that they will not have a Linux or Mac version.
So as I own no microsoft OS I will not be able to run or play it.

a) the game is out
b) we wouldn't loose a lot core functionality (nwnx?)

Actually MS has a lot of hooks in there that make the transgaming setup no fun. I played many games under it till DirectX 9 now most render hidiously slow.lafferty wrote:http://www.transgaming.com/

And as DX9 is the interpreter going to SDL is a complete rewrite of the graphics engine. The whole point from the Microsoft perspective was to lock in users by bringing out DirectX to compete with OpenGL and eventualy crush it.
