A discussion about a new kind of persistent world

Over a year ago, I found a freebie D&D campaign setting called Amethyst, created by Canadian Chris Dias. When I later learned of the NWN game engine, I thought that it would make a good persistent world. However, when I inquired about this with the creator, he said he would prefer a Square Enix single-player CRPG, in what I assume is the tradition of Japanese Anime CRPG video games. Your thoughts?
